NDIS Information

NDIS Participants

Understanding your NDIS plan and how we can support you to get the most out of your funding.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding to eligible people with a permanent and significant disability. The NDIS gives you choice and control over the supports you receive, helping you achieve your goals and live more independently.

At Top End Disability Services, we work with participants across all plan management types. Whether you are self-managed, plan-managed, or agency-managed, we are here to support you every step of the way.

How Is Your Plan Managed?

There are three ways your NDIS funding can be managed. Understanding your plan type helps you know how to access our services.

Self Managed

You're in full control

If you are self-managed, you have full control over how your NDIS funds are used. You can choose any provider — registered or unregistered — and pay for supports directly from your NDIS funds. You are responsible for keeping records and managing invoices.

  • Maximum flexibility and choice of providers
  • Can use both registered and unregistered providers
  • You manage payments and keep records
  • Greater control over your support arrangements

Plan Managed

A plan manager handles the finances

With plan management, a registered plan manager handles the financial side of your NDIS plan on your behalf. They pay your providers, track your budget, and provide you with regular statements — giving you flexibility without the administrative burden.

  • A plan manager pays providers on your behalf
  • Can use both registered and unregistered providers
  • Regular budget statements and financial reporting
  • Less administrative work for you

Agency Managed

The NDIA manages your funds

If your plan is agency-managed (also called NDIA-managed), the National Disability Insurance Agency manages your funding directly. Payments are made through the NDIS portal, and you must use NDIS-registered providers like Top End Disability Services.

  • The NDIA manages and pays providers directly
  • Must use NDIS-registered providers only
  • No financial management required from you
  • Straightforward and simple to use

Our Commitment

NDIS Code of Conduct

The NDIS Code of Conduct sets out the expected standards of behaviour for all NDIS providers and workers. At Top End Disability Services, we are fully committed to upholding these standards in everything we do.

The NDIS Code of Conduct requires all providers and workers to:

Act with respect and dignity

Treat every participant with respect, dignity, and compassion — recognising their individuality and right to make their own decisions.

Act with honesty and transparency

Be open, honest, and transparent in all dealings with participants, their families, and the NDIS.

Provide safe and competent support

Deliver supports and services safely, competently, and with care — maintaining the skills and knowledge required to do so.

Promote independence and inclusion

Support participants to exercise choice and control, and actively promote their inclusion and participation in the community.

Prevent and respond to harm

Take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence — and report any concerns promptly.

Respect privacy and confidentiality

Protect the privacy and confidentiality of participants at all times, in accordance with the Privacy Act and NDIS guidelines.

Our team members are trained on the NDIS Code of Conduct and our obligations as a registered provider. We take any concerns seriously and have clear processes for raising and resolving issues.
